A 19-year-old says her older sister recently found out she’s pregnant — and she plans to use the same baby name that had long been on the teen’s list.
In a post shared anonymously to Reddit, the 19-year-old writes: “I have always loved the name Lily and have planned to name my future daughter that since I was a kid. My family has known this for years. Well, my sister (24F) just found out she’s pregnant and suddenly she wants to name her baby Lily.”
When the 19-year-old told her sister, “That’s the name I’ve always planned to use,” she “rolled her eyes and said, ‘Yeah, but I’m actually pregnant, and who knows when you’ll even have kids?’ ” she writes.
“I told her that’s not the point—she knew I wanted the name, and it feels unfair for her to just take it because she’s having a baby first,” she adds in the post.

Now the 19-year-old’s family is calling her dramatic and telling her, “You don’t own a name.”
“My sister keeps saying I can just find another name when the time comes. I get that I’m not having a baby anytime soon, but it still feels like she’s stealing something important to me,” she adds.
Commenters are overwhelmingly siding with the poster’s sister, with one writing, “You don’t own any name. She’s not wrong. And next name you like, keep to yourself.”
Adds another: “You don’t own a name, you’re not pregnant and you may not even have a daughter. If you have a daughter you can still name her Lilly.”
