Idaho bar causes intense internet debate for celebrating ‘heterosexual awesomeness month’

A bar in Idaho is going viral after announcing an alternative to Pride.

Old State Saloon in Eagle, Idaho declared June “Heterosexual Awesomeness Month” and is offering discounts for heterosexual men, women, and couples.

On Wednesday, the bar announced they would be kicking off their inaugural celebration of heterosexuality with various promotions for single people and couples.

“June will be OSS’s inaugural Heterosexual Awesomeness Month! Come join us all month to celebrate heterosexuals, for without them, none of us would be here! Each Monday will be Hetero Male Monday and any heterosexual male dressed like a heterosexual male will receive a free draft beer. Each Wednesday is Heterosexual couples day and each heterosexual couple will receive 15% off their bill,” they wrote on Facebook.

While the month of June is nationally recognized as Pride Month, the Idaho bar has chosen to recognize a group of people who do not face discrimination or marginalization based on their sexual identity.

Old State Saloon plans to offer a deal on what they’re calling “Hetero Male Monday,” where they will give free draft beer to “any heterosexual male dressed like a heterosexual male.”

On Wednesdays, the bar will give “each heterosexual couple” 15 percent off their bill, and Thursdays are “Her Hetero Happy Hour” where straight women receive discounts.

Netizens had a field day when they learned about Old State Saloon’s promotion.

Some called out the bar for not understanding the reason behind Pride.

“Tell me why you don’t understand why we need pride month without telling me you don’t understand why we need pride month…”

“Imagine being this insecure

“This is horridly disappointing. I can handle differing political views. I CANNOT handle bigotry and hate towards marginalized communities.”

“Straight Pride is not a thing, y’all have not and are not an oppressed demographic! GAY PRIDE was a necessary movement that helped bring my community to the powerful place it is in today… it’s not an attack on anyone it’s just bringing our existence back into a public where we belong and deserve to be! & provide a safe community for those still finding their place in life”

“This is just attention seeking, and tbh it’s kind of sad. I don’t have to go to a special bar to be openly affectionate with my husband with no repercussions. I can talk about him at work, kiss him in the parking lot at his work, and live in whatever place I can afford.”

While others were more than happy to support the bar for their unique promotion.

“Sounds good!! It’s about time we are celebrated!!”

“Fantastic! So great to see people’s pushing back on all the woke propaganda.☺️☺️❤️❤️Wish I lived in Idaho!”

“So bold! I love it!”

“Heterosexuals, maintaining the human species for 40,000 years. You’re welcome

“People who are upset by this are heterophobic. Wish you were located closer to me”
