Dolly Parton’s death sparked a lot of emotions. Now, talk show host Bill Maher has found himself in hot water, with fans showing their anger towards him over a Dolly Parton joke he made the same day she was buried.
Dolly Parton died last week at the age of 80. On Friday, the Queen of Country was laid to rest next to her late husband, Carl Dean, at Woodlawn Memorial Park and Mausoleum in Nashville, Tennessee.
Dolly’s great-niece, Lainey Parton, shared news of the funeral on Instagram, writing, “This is a really hard post for me to make. I wanted to wait until after my granny was laid to rest yesterday before I tried to put any of this into words.
“From the time I was little, my granny always had a way of making me feel like I was enough. She never made my dreams feel too big or made me feel like I couldn’t do something. She believed in me before I even knew how to believe in myself,” she continued.
“Most people can think of at least one bad memory with everyone in their family. I honestly can’t think of one with her. Because she couldn’t have kids of her own, she always made us feel like we were hers. She loved us that way, and I’ll forever be grateful for that.”

Dolly Parton’s death has sparked an outburst of grief worldwide. Many have shared beautiful tributes to her, but none have received a positive reaction. For example, Ivanka Trump was accused of making the music legend’s death about herself, and the same went for Garth Brooks’ daughter.
Also, a rival theme park to Dollywood sparked anger after its post forced it to issue a public apology. And on the day of Dolly’s funeral, Friday, U.S. talk show host Bill Maher also found himself in hot water. That was after trying to make a Dolly Parton joke.
During his opening monologue on Real Time Friday. Maher appeared frustrated that Dolly’s passing was getting more attention than major international issues, including the war in Iran and ongoing trade tensions between the U.S. and Canada.
Referencing tributes to Dolly Parton, Maher told his audience: “All this was going on and all America could really talk about this week was how sad it is we lost Dolly Parton.”
“Everybody around the country, even around the world: London, they’re doing things, the Santa Monica Ferris wheel is lit up with hearts, the Empire State Building was put up in pink,” he added, and joked: “The Sphere in Las Vegas added a nipple.”
Fans are calling “soulless ghoul” Maher to be “canceled”
But Maher’s comments did not sit well with fans. People quickly took to social media to show their anger, with many accusing the comedian of being disrespectful. Some even went as far as calling for Maher to be “canceled.”
“Mocking our grief over losing Dolly Parton is just more proof that Trumpism [Bill Maher] is a soulless ghoul who wants his own Maher-a-Lago,” one fan wrote, per The Mirror.
Another added: “[Maher] just didn’t seem to get the fact that in a divided America, we can at least all agree that Dolly was a national treasure. And despite her humble origin, unlike him, she had class.”
A third wrote, “That’s because @billmaher has never made anyone FEEL a damned thing with his words, voice or personality. @DollyParton on the other hand…”
“Somebody is upset at the realisation that he will not be remembered nearly as reverently nor widely when his time comes,” a fourth stated, while a fifth claimed, “If I was a guest for that episode, I would have walked off.”
“Whoever’s still watching him needs to stop so HBO will cancel him,” another social media user wrote.
